What’s Happening With Big Muddy?

Preparation for next year’s Big Muddy, taking place February 21st – 26th, 2017, has officially begun, and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

First and foremost, submissions to the festival are now open via Filmfreeway.  Our first deadline is September 26.  As always, films of all lengths and kinds are considered including: Narrative, Documentary, Animation, and Experimental.

We are also holding a design contest for the Big Muddy 39 logo.  The winner will receive 100 dollars and the chance to have their design featured on all festival promotional material.  Designs can include, but are not limited to: graphics, photos, and paintings.  Please send submissions to info@bigmuddyfilm.com by October 26. Another great way for anyone interested in the festival to get involved is to help us choose which films get accepted!  Throughout the fall we will be holding pre-screening events on the SIUC campus where we will be viewing submissions and coming up with feedback which will ultimately help us determine which films are shown at the festival.  These events are open to all, and will take place in the Communications Building.  The first pre-screenings will take place on September 24th and 25th. As for the time and rooms, we’ll keep you updated on that!

And last but not least, if you are a student at SIUC, though you can’t submit your own films, we invite you to get involved with the process of running the festival.  One of the things that makes Big Muddy so special is that not only is it an internationally recognized showcase for independent film of all kinds, but it’s one that’s run almost entirely by college students. Big Muddy Crew, the registered student organization that puts on the festival, meets every Thursday at 6 PM in the New Media Center in the Communications Building. Hope to see you there!
